The Faculty of Historical Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo invite you to take part in the annual ‘Pomeranian-Baltic Seminars on 20th-Century History’. This regular series of meetings, the result of collaboration between our institutions, provides a permanent forum for the exchange of information on the latest research and activities relating to the history of the Gdańsk Pomerania region and the Baltic Sea area in the 20th century. This year’s edition of the seminar, which will take place in Sztutowo from 4 to 6 November 2026, is entitled ‘Personal Documents in the Era of 20th-Century Totalitarianism’.

Aims and objectives

Our priority is to foster integration within the academic community and to popularise historical knowledge. During our annual meetings, we place particular emphasis on:
- presenting ongoing research projects,
- sharing the latest research findings,
- discussing newly discovered historical sources,
- sharing experiences in the field of educational and museum activities,
- promoting the latest publications and editions,
- establishing collaborations and initiating inter-community research projects.

Format of the meetings

We aim for the meetings to be open in nature. Participants present their projects, publications, exhibitions and other activities carried out during the year in the form of 15-minute multimedia presentations, followed by a group discussion. The seminar is interdisciplinary in nature. We invite historians, archivists, archaeologists, museum professionals and educators to take part. We would be delighted to welcome students and PhD candidates into our ranks – as young scholars for whom the seminar will be an excellent opportunity to make their debut.
