National Congress of Science Forum on doctoral schools

On 20 March the second debate of the National Congress of Science was held at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The Forum focused on doctoral schools - a new form of doctoral education, introduced in the Act 2.0.

The NCS FORUM is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the academic community. Its aim is to discuss and share experiences related to giving a new shape to science and higher education in Poland following the implementation of the Law on Higher Education and Science.

During the meeting, which was hosted by the NCU on March 20, representatives of various universities will present their doctoral school projects. The discussion also concerned, among others, the structure of new schools, joint schools for several universities, educational programmes, recruitment rules or evaluation of doctoral schools.

The meetings began at 9:30 at the NCU Collegium Humanisticum (ul. Bojarskiego 1 in Toruń).

The organization of the debate - Apart from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the National Doctoral Representation participated in organising the debates. Doctoral representatives took an active part in all panels and seminars. The organizers were also supported by representatives of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. The media partners of the event were Science in Poland and the "Academic Forum".

The first of the NCS FORUM debates was held on February 18, 2019 at the Łódź University of Technology. During the meeting, representatives of various types of universities shared their experiences regarding the organization of the university and its structure in the newly created statutes. Subsequent debates, in addition to key issues related to the implementation of the Act 2.0, will be devoted, among others, to the implementation of the strategy for scientific excellence, modern higher education, partnership with business and social responsibility of science.
