
We are pleased to invite proposals for the international academic conference:
Group Identity – Social Structures – Diversity in Premodern Europe
Toruń, 10–11 October 2025
This is the third edition of the biennial conference established in 2021, organised by
Dr Anna Maleszka (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń)
and Prof. Dr Matthew Stevens (Swansea University).
The 2025 conference will focus on the interplay between group identity, social structures, and diversity in premodern societies. We welcome submissions exploring a wide range of issues, including:

Identity formation within various social groups

Interactions and conflicts between groups of differing identities

Diversity and social norms
-
Trade, migration, and cultural exchange

Gender and social roles
-
Crises and transformations of social structures
Proposals for 30-minute academic papers and 20-minute student presentations in English (250-word abstracts) should be submitted by 1 July 2025 to: annam@umk.pl
